With local anesthesia, an anesthetic agent is administered directly into the area of ​​the jaw requiring treatment, thereby blocking the transmission of nerve signals. By eliminating pain, the specific tooth or jaw area can be treated without the patient feeling a thing.

Approximately 1 to 2 hours after the treatment, the body metabolizes the anesthetic; sensation returns to the treated area, and you are able to eat and drink again.

The Relaxed Alternative – Twilight Sedation or General Anesthesia

Would you prefer to remain completely unaware of your dental treatment—perhaps because it is extensive, you suffer from a severe gag reflex, or you simply feel uneasy or even anxious about dental procedures? The difference between these two anesthetic methods lies in the fact that general anesthesia requires mechanical ventilation. With twilight sedation, only a very deep state of reduced consciousness is induced; patients remain responsive but feel no pain and do not require mechanical ventilation. Generally, twilight sedation is very well tolerated by the body.

You will sleep through your dental treatment, feeling no pain and remaining unaware of any unpleasant sounds. In our specially equipped recovery room, you are welcome to stay for as long as you wish—or as long as you need—after waking up. Please bear in mind that following a procedure performed under twilight sedation or general anesthesia, you are not permitted to drive yourself home; rather, your transport home must be arranged in advance.

The anesthesiologist’s services are billed directly and privately by the specialist; statutory health insurance providers cover these costs only in extremely rare and exceptional cases.
